Reiki Treatment

What is Reiki?

Simply stated….Reiki is the transfer of Universal Life Force Energy, (the energy that’s in us and around us everywhere, all the time) in a non-intrusive, hands on healing technique. Reiki can reduce stress and help bring the body into balance. When the body is balanced it can heal itself, creating a natural process of well- being. Reiki can never do any harm and it always works for the highest good. It also works on all levels of our being…physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Reiki and the importance of reducing stress

Stress is considered one of the main contributing factors of the majority of illnesses, injuries and DIS-eases we experience today. And whether we realize it or not, we are constantly bombarded with negativity which directly or indirectly impacts our energy field.  Work, school, friends, family, news papers, TV, traffic, acid rain, need I go on? These experiences diminish the vital functions of the cellular structure of our physical, mental and emotional bodies creating a welcoming terrain for DIS-ease to settle in.

Benefits of a Reiki Treatment

  • An overall sense of peace and well-being
  • Stress reduction
  • Deep relaxation
  • Accelerated healing on all levels physical, mental, emotional & Spiritual
  • Greater mental clarity
  • Emotional calm
  • Improved circulation
  • Greater energy flow

Who benefits from a Reiki Treatment? Everyone! Not only does the recipient benefit, so does the practitioner. Yes, every time the practitioner is giving Reiki, he or she is also receiving Reiki…now that 's cool!

People often ask me if doing this work drains my energy. I'm always pleased and grateful to smile and say, "no", because first of all it's never my energy, and second of all I’m receiving Reiki while I’m giving Reiki. You have to admit, there aren’t many things in this life that offer that kind of reward.

Who should use Reiki?

Anyone and everyone could benefit from giving Reiki, but here are just a few examples of the professions where Reiki could be used:

  • Healthcare workers, doctors, surgeons, nurses
  • Chiropractors and physical therapists
  • Acupuncture, Acupressure, Shiatsu, Reflexology practitioners
  • Massage therapist and Body Workers
  • Veterinarians…yes it's great for animals
  • Teachers….yes it's great to use it with children too, because kids have no preconceived ideas that it will or won't work. They just recognize it allow the Reiki to work with their own innate wisdom.
  • Parents and Caregivers. You'd be amazed at much less stress there is and how quickly any kind of wound will heal…physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. It's a fabulous tool to help with their worries and stresses.

Healing with Reiki

How many of you now know someone with cancer? Well go back to the brief list of benefits mentioned earlier and tell me that a cancer patient couldn't benefit from Reiki. I've seen it over and over in my practice. Reiki is the one thing that offers a healing peacefulness that, for the client, is an indescribable blessing. Imagine all the lives you touch and imagine how much healing could happen if you were Reiki trained….think what it would be like if everyone was Reiki trained?

Receiving a Reiki Treatment

The beauty of Reiki is that it can be done in a quiet meditative state or you can do it in Grand Central Station….either way it works.

However, to truly experience the full benefits of Reiki I recommend a session in a quiet space. In my practice I usually suggest the client wear loose, comfortable clothing which they will keep on during the session. After an evaluation of what's going on, they enter a small room with soft lights, candles, gentle music and aromatherapy which all contribute to the peaceful and secure environment. The client then lies on the massage table with a bolster or pillow under the knees and a sheet or blanket over top of them if they choose. I explain where I'll be putting my hands during the session, gently placing them on various regions of the head, neck, torso, arms, legs and feet. Reiki energy always finds its way to the areas that require healing, be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

After a few moments of prayerful meditation I begin the session, allowing myself to be guided by the client's innate wisdom and for their highest good.

From time to time during the session the client may notice that my hands feel warm or tingly, or perhaps even hot. They may feel other sensations through their body, or they may feel absolutely nothing at all. Some clients will find a need to talk and express themselves during the session, while others will find it hard to stay awake. There's no right or wrong way to experience Reiki and every Reiki session is uniquely individual. However, there does seem to be one thing that almost everyone does notice….and that is a deep, strong sense of peacefulness. Do you know of anyone who couldn't benefit from that?

Since Reiki is so flexible, the client can receive Reiki sitting in a chair, standing or even lying in a hospital bed. A treatment can be administered through casts and bandages and offers healing and balance regardless of whatever the environment presents.
